Padel Level RatingWhilst many venues use a dynamic algorithm to rank players based on match results and player comparisons, at Podington Padel we like to take a more relaxed approach and follow the MATCHi self-ranking system below.* Use this guide to make sure you're in the right group(s) on our WhatsApp community and that you are signing up to sessions that are suitable for your level.
* If you’re unsure, please ask anyone from the Podington Padel team for advice.1. Newcomer
You are new to padel (and possibly racket sports in general) - learning how to make contact with the ball and familiarising yourself with the rules and scoring.2. Beginner
You’ve had an 'Intro To' session or you have a background in racket sports and have a basic understanding of padel rules - now you are working on consistently getting the ball over the net to keep the ball in play and focusing on the basic strokes.3. Beginner +
You can sustain a rally at a slow pace without involving the walls but aren't yet comfortable with the glass. You can hit volleys at the net but overheads can still be a struggle.4. Intermediate -
You can rally with some consistency at a medium pace using ground strokes and volleys, and you can handle slow, spin-free shots off the glass. You’re starting to understand footwork and positioning, and you can anticipate shots from your opponents.5. Intermediate
You handle serves, returns, groundstrokes and volleys well, but your overheads need some work. You can recover many balls off the glass. Strategy and tactics are entering your game. You understand strengths and weaknesses but are struggling to exploit them.6. Intermediate +
Your overheads have direction and intent and you're comfortable with the glass, but you can struggle with correct positioning when returning difficult shots. You’ve started to evaluate and improve your ratio of unforced errors during matches and feel confident to compete in local tournaments.7. Advanced
You can play all the shots and refine them continually. You have a solid understanding of the game and you can identify weaknesses in your opponents and frequently exploit them, but consistency through a full match is still a problem. You might compete in lower county level tournaments.8. Advanced +
You handle all aspects of the game effectively, applying consistent pressure. You take more risks, resulting in a balanced ratio of winners to unforced errors. You can coach padel and compete in higher level county tournaments.9. Semi-pro
Congratulations...you’re on the path to padel fame and could play national competitions with good results.10. Professional
Videos of your rallies in international tournaments go viral. You’re almost certainly not reading this.
